A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Coastal Waters from Port Fourchon LA to Lower Atchafalaya River LA out 20 nm... Coastal waters from Port Fourchon Louisiana to Lower Atchafalaya River LA from 20 to 60 NM... Coastal waters from Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River to Port Fourchon Louisiana from 20 to 60 NM... Coastal waters from the Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River to Port Fourchon Louisiana out 20 NM... At 1222 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds of 25 to 30 knots and weak waterspouts. These thunderstorms are generally located along a line extending from 23 nm south of Isle Derniers to 11 nm south of Timbalier Island to near Louisiana Offshore Oil Port to 16 nm southwest of Southwest Pass Of the Mississippi River, moving southwest at 10 knots.
What To Do
Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, higher waves and dangerous lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this activity passes. Brief, weak waterspouts are possible with this activity. Remain on alert in case warnings are issued for waterspout development. A special marine warning may eventually be required. Boaters should consider heading for shore before these storms arrive.
