InformationBackcountry route open to vehicles May 15 - November 15

Valles Caldera's backcountry road system opens to vehicles on Friday, May 15, 2026. Forty vehicles passes will be issued per day through November 15, when the route closes for the 2026 season. Passes may be reserved up to 3 months in advance at Recreation.gov. Any remaining daily passes will be available on a first come, first served basis in the Volcano Discovery Center.

County Line Road is closed during the week, from Monday through Friday. The closure will apply to all vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. Please find an alternate route.

The Isaac Potts House (Washington's Headquarters at Valley Forge) is temporarily closed for a restoration project. The Washington's Headquarters area, including the Valley Forge Train Station and exhibits, Commander-In-Chief's Guard Huts, and George Washington statue, remains open and accessible during regular operating hours. InformationMaurice Stephens Parking Lot Closed During Construction Project

The parking lot near the Maurice Stephens house, located on Rt 23 opposite from the Washington Memorial Chapel, is closed during construction and renovation work on the house. Visitors are encouraged to park in the Chapel lot for Grand Parade trail access

InformationDogs Prohibited on Grand Parade Trails from April 1 to September 15

The Grand Parade Trails are closed to dogs from April 1 to September 15 to protect breeding birds nesting in the meadows. Nesting songbirds see dogs as predators, which can stress the birds and lead to less productive or even failed nests.

Due to weather related incidents, Vicksburg National Cemetery is closed to vehicular traffic, however it is open to pedestrians. Visitor can park in the adjacent USS Cairo parking lot and walk into the cemetery.

Park ClosureIllinois Memorial Closed for Restoration

The memorial itself closed for restoration starting on September 16, 2025. Starting on March 2, 2026, access to Tour Stops 2 and 3 will be temporarily closed. The closure point will be at the Shirley House. Visitors will still be able to continue north along Union Avenue and access the remainder of the Tour Road. This section will remain closed for the duration of the Illinois Memorial Restoration. The project is expected to be completed by September 2026.

InformationCampfire ban lifted parkwide

Effective August 24, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., the National Park Service has lifted campfire restrictions in Voyageurs National Park due to cooler weather and a lower risk of wildfire. The lifting of these fire restrictions aligns with changes made by the U.S. Forest Service in the Superior National Forest and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Campsites, houseboat sites, and the day use sites are closed on Dryweed Island and nearby sites due to unsafe bear‑human interactions. Affected locations include Breakwater Cove, Dryweed Island, Harrison Bay, Makinen Point, Mio Beach, Stones Point, Loon Cove, Rock Shelf, Lyle Mine Island, Tango Channel, and Harrison Bay E. Dunes Drive is open. A safety corridor is in effect between mile marker 3 and 5.5 along Dunes Drive. Visitors may drive but not stop or exit their vehicle in this area.

There is limited space for parking for recreational vehicles and trailers in the parking lot directly in front (south) of the visitor center. RVs are asked to not park in the lot behind the visitor center. There is no parking space for tractor trailers.

Park ClosureWind Cave Canyon Trail Closed for Repair and Improvement

Wind Cave Canyon Trail is closed so that the trail and adjoining road can be repaired from frequent washouts. Sixteen low water crossings will be hardened and the road resurfaced. The trail could be closed for several weeks. This closure does not affect any cave tours.

The Madison, Firehole and Gibbon (downstream of Norris Campground) rivers are closed to fishing until water temperatures cool to protect the park's native and wild trout fisheries. Most other rivers and streams are open to fishing, as specified in park fishing regulations.

InformationSheep Hunting Closure

The Federal Subsistence Board closed sheep hunting to all users on Federal public lands within Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Glacier Mountain Controlled Use Areas Units in 20E and 25C due to significant declines to the sheep population. The authority was granted via WP26-76 on April 24, 2026 and the closure with extend through June 30, 2028.

Zion has limited parking space. Park only in designated stalls. Vehicles parked outside of designated stalls are subject to citation and may be towed. Once all designated parking stalls in Zion are full, visitors should park in Springdale.
