For safety, closed-toe shoes with good traction are recommended. Flip flops, sandals, and some walking shoes have little or no traction and increase the possibility of slips, trips, and falls. Watch your step and use the handrails when necessary.

Due to construction in the park, the Natural Entrance trail will be closed on Wednesday, August 26 and Thursday, August 27. Elevators will be the only way to enter and exit the cavern. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for understanding.

Fire restrictions have been lifted at Carlsbad Caverns which means that fires such as charcoal fires in grills and the use of camp stoves or portable grills will be allowed. Igniting and maintaining an open fire must be done with materials that are commonly used for warmth and food preparations such as natural firewood or charcoal briquettes. Other materials such as flammable liquids, garbage, plastic, aerosol canisters, or other artificial substances are not permitted.

InformationConstruction Begins on Glenn-Viniard Road in Chickamauga Battlefield

Beginning August 12, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will temporarily close Glenn‑Viniard Road between LaFayette Road and Wilder Road to support construction work in Chickamauga Battlefield. During this period, all public traffic will be prohibited on the closed portion of the road. The park expects the project to be completed by early September 2026. A temporary detour will be implemented to maintain visitor access to the designated battlefield tour routes.

On Tuesday, August 25, Viniard-Alexander Road, between Alexander’s Bridge Road and LaFayette Road, will be temporarily closed for most of the day to allow for the removal of a hazardous tree. InformationLower Monument Canyon Trail Work - Expect Short Delays through August 2026

Monday-Thursday and some Fridays, 7 am to 4:30 pm, mid-May through August, expect trail maintenance on lower Monument Canyon Trail. Work will take place on the lower 2.5 miles of the trail, from the lower trailhead up to the Wedding Canyon intersection at Independence Monument. No closures are currently scheduled, though hikers might experience short delays while traveling through work sites.

Due to nearby construction and blasting, the 1-mile Yaqui Ridge Trail is closed starting April 13, 2026 until further notice to ensure visitor safety. The closure begins at the junction with Joe’s Canyon Trail, and access beyond this point is not permitted. This affects access to the southern terminus of the Arizona National Scenic Trail.

Be flexible; conditions may change throughout the day.
