The Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site is closed for a utilities improvement project.

The Western National Parks (WNP) bookstore at the El Malpais Visitor Center will be closed for annual inventory on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The rest of the visitor center will be open as usual from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. You can shop your western national parks online at the link below. Thank you for your understanding!

The El Calderon Trail and parking area are closed from August 2025 through September 2026 for a major improvement project. NPS Road 100 will remain open for local traffic only, and the Continental Divide Trail will remain open for CDT thru-hikers.

A portion of the Headland Trail is closed due to ongoing restoration work. Access to the trail will now close at 2:30 pm daily. All hikers must be off the trails by 4:45 pm.

Digital passes or credit/debit cards are the ONLY method of payment at all fee collection areas. Pre-paid digital passes are available online and may be purchased in advance.

Protective sidewalk scaffolding has been erected around the building as a safety precaution.

To protect threatened nesting shorebirds, pets are prohibited in the Otis Pike Wilderness and on federally-managed ocean beaches. Beach driving is closed at Lighthouse Beach, Sailors Haven and the Wilderness area.

Due to damage from winter ice, the Talisman-Barrett Beach dock is closed. NPS staff are evaluating options for repairs. There is no timeline for restoration. Boaters should plan to anchor in the bay to access the site. Be advised that the area is extremely shallow. Restroom maintenance will be limited during this time and visitors must pack out all trash and belongings. Public use of some areas will be restricted for safety.

While New York provides for regulated possession and use of marijuana, it remains an illegal drug under federal law and enforced within National Park units.

The use of drones is prohibited at Fort Davis National Historic Site. Thank you for preserving the cultural landscape.

Fort Davis National Historic Site is located in the Central Time Zone. The park is open 8:00 am until 5:00 pm (Central Time). The Visitor Center closes at 4:30pm. The Main Gate locks at 5:00pm.

Visitor Access to Fort Donelson NB Park Lands: Pedestrian access is from dawn to dusk. Automobile access to Fort Donelson NB Park Roads is from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm.

Fort Matanzas may only be accessed by our free ferry service. The boats operate Thursday through Monday; we do not operate the ferry on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. For more information about tickets and times, please visit the "Plan Your Visit" tab.

Traffic in the Baltimore area has increased considerably in recent months due to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge which connected the Baltimore beltway. Please check the latest traffic conditions to plan your travel accordingly.

For the safety and protection of visitors and park resources, motorized scooters are not permitted within the park. Any vehicles (scooters, bicycles, etc.) that are part of a ride-share program may not be left behind for pick up inside the park

We do not mail Junior Ranger books; please download from site. Completed books may be submitted digitally. Junior Ranger badges may be mailed once per person per calendar year after completion. We do not mail completed books back.

Starting March 18, preservationists restoring the bronze state plaques along the entrance road, and the War of 1812 commemorative markers in the Orpheus Grove. Some of these areas may be temporarily closed while work is in progress.

The Engineer Wharf, one of two fishing piers at Fort Monroe is temporarily closed. The Finger Pier remains open. Also closed is the section of Fenwick Road between Ingalls and the East Gate of the fort. Detour signs will aid travelers around the closure.

The pavilions in the CCC Camp Picnic Area are closed for the immediate future for restoration work.

Jumonville Glen, Mount Washington Tavern, and the Picnic Area are OPEN until October 31st. Jumonville Glen and the Picnic Area are open daily sunrise to sunset, and Mount Washington Tavern is open every day 10 am to 4 pm.

The park is no longer accepting cash for entrance fees. Credit and debit cards are the only method of payment currently being accepted.

The McQueen's Island Trail will close for a Chatham County restoration project beginning August 3, 2026.

The shoreline is closed permanently for resource protection and visitor safety.

The Fort Moultrie Fishing Dock is currently under construction through Spring 2026.

Ferries to Fort Sumter from Patriots Point are not always accessible for individuals who use mobility assistance devices or have trouble navigating stairs. The Fort Sumter Visitor Center departure location is fully accessible or visitors can call Fort Sumter Tours (843-722-2628) for current Patriots Point accessibility conditions.

The National Park Service is aware of fraudulent websites selling invalid ferry tickets to Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park. Valid ferry tickets can only be purchased through the park's authorized concessioner at www.fortsumtertours.com. Visitors should carefully verify the website address before purchasing tickets. Tickets purchased through unauthorized websites are not valid and will not be honored.

The mobility lifts at Fort Sumter on the second and third levels are currently out of order. The bottom level of the fort, along with the water fountain, remains wheelchair accessible.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation updates its map of road advisories regularly. Visitors are encouraged to look for any possible road advisories along their route of travel beforehand.

The National Park Service is imposing a temporary closure of Farmington Landing. This temporary closure is necessary to provide for visitor safety during a comprehensive rehabilitation project to restore park resources and improve the visitor experience. Work will include resurfacing the parking lot, replacing parking barriers, replacing trash cans with new wildlife-proof trash cans, and installing new fishing rod holders. The National Park Service appreciates the public’s cooperation in this matter.

Starting November 20, 2025 the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center will be closed while updates are made to building systems. Front Desk operations including visitor orientation will move to the adjacent Fredericksburg Battlefield Bookstore. The Chancellorsville Visitor Center remains open to visitors 9am - 5pm all week.

Dogs are not allowed on ocean beaches at Sandy Hook between March 15 through September 15. Dogs are not allowed on the ocean beaches at Jacob Riis Park, Fort Tilden, Breezy Point Tip and at the bayside of Breezy Point between March 15 through September 15

The entire southern area of Dead Horse Bay, including Glass Bottle Beach, is closed to the public. Dead Horse Bay is located in Brooklyn, NYC.

North Beach Tip at Sandy Hook is closed to access until further notice due to nesting bird activity.

Spring Creek is closed to the public at this time. The NPS is conducting field investigations as part of a Remedial Investigation at the site. Spring Creek is located in Queens, NYC.

Due to extremely hazardous conditions Gateway National Recreation Area has restricted access to sections of Jacob Riis Park. Erosion has created unsafe conditions from Bays 1-5, and portions of the eastern beach are closed.

The History House at Sandy Hook will be closed for maintenance from Monday August 17 through Friday August 21, 2026.

Mason's Branch Road will be closed for necessary safety repairs from 07/29/26 through around 09/03/26. Check back for updates.

The Tailwaters Campground in Gauley River National Recreation Area, located below Summersville Dam, will temporarily close from September 11 through September 28 in order to allow for more parking and better river access during the busy Gauley season.

George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is located in the Eastern Time Zone. The memorial closes 15 minutes before the visitor center.
