Currently, no water is available in the restrooms at the Butte Lake campgrounds. Work is underway to restore it. Pit toilets are available.

Schonchin Butte Road and Trail are closed to all traffic when the gate is closed, due to maintenance work occurring at the fire lookout.

Please Do Not bring clothing or caving gear used in caves or mines outside of Lava Beds into our caves. This will help slow the spread of white-nose syndrome, a bat disease that is killing bats outside of the park.

Due to increased wasp activity the Fleener Chimney is closed effective August 3, 2026, until further notice.

The primary phone line is experiencing intermittent service disruptions. If you are unable to reach staff, please email us at [email protected]. Please understand that emails will not be answered immediately. The park's website will have the most up-to-date information.

Due to construction, oversized vehicles will not be allowed to park in the visitor center parking lot due to lack of space and ability to turn-around safely. There is oversized parking along the main park road.

Masks are not required but are strongly recommended for all Museum visitors. Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on in-person building tours, but are welcome to attend a neighborhood walking tour or visit us virtually.

On January 2, 2024 the Texas White House Complex closed so the construction phase of the Texas White House rehabilitation can begin. The LBJ Ranch driving tour remains open. Visitors can still see the school, cemetery, birthplace and showbarn.

Following the flooding which took place July 16, the LBJ Ranch reopened for normal operational hours (9am to 5pm) on Sunday, July 19. The ranch driving route is fully open, and visitors will be able to enter the Junction School and Showbarn as well as view the cemetery and walk to the Reconstructed Birthplace. The sites in the Johnson City District of the park remain open; this includes the national park visitor center and Boyhood Home.

Reservations are strongly recommended. Reservations are the only way to ensure a spot is available for your party. Please plan accordingly by visiting Recreation.gov to secure your tickets in advance. Availability of walk-up tickets is not guaranteed.

The Old Guides Trail, Heritage Trail, Sunset Point Trail and areas of the Sinkhole Trail are currently closed due to a trail rehabilitation project.

Due to mechanical issues with the cave elevator, the Accessible Tour is currently unavailable. Please check back for updates or call the visitor center at (270) 758-2180.

CalTrans begins a monthslong pavement project on US 395 adjacent to Manzanar National Historic Site on Monday, May 11, 2026. Crews will be working to ensure access to Manzanar remains open, but it will be important to travel cautiously as typical access may involve detours and map apps may be inaccurate. Though work is scheduled only during weekdays, lane closures and detours will be in place throughout the week. Currently, the site may only be accessed via the south entrance.

Tours may be purchased online (recreation.gov) or in person with a credit or debit card only. Cash transactions are not available at the park.

A significant portion of trails and carriage roads within the Marsh‑Billings‑Rockefeller National Historical Park boundary will be closed for habitation restoration beginning the afternoon of Monday, August 24. These closures may continue through Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Please observe and obey all posted signs. See link for details and trail closure map.

Lindenwald Tours – 2026 Season Lindenwald is open for tours Friday–Sunday at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM. Tours are first-come, first-served. Monday–Thursday: grounds are open, but no tours are available. Park stamps, and restrooms are available in the Visitor Center.

Far View Sites and Cedar Tree Tower are closed for road improvements. Road work along the first four miles of the park road from the entrance station will begin in early summer. Delays of up to 30 minutes are possible - please check the park map before your visit. Wetherill Mesa Road has compacted gravel for 30 feet; motorcycles should take extra caution on this road.

Kelso Depot Visitor Center is closed for rehabilitation of the heating and cooling system. We expect to reopen the depot in 2026. The restrooms beside the depot are open.

In the event there are train siding operations at the crossing near Kelso Depot, delays may be up to one hour. Please plan accordingly for this possibility with extra fuel and drinking water. Union Pacific Contact: 1 800 848-8715

Visitor wifi and wifi calling is now available in The Kelso Depot parking lot for calls including emergencies. Go to the bulletin board at the Kelso Depot restrooms for instructions.

Hart Mine Road Closed.

At this time, staff are unable to check or receive phone messages left at the visitor center. All calls to the park are being routed to Tuzigoot National Monument. You can also reach the park at [email protected] if you need to contact the park.

Before hiking at Moores Creek, make sure to bring all your necessary medications, sunscreen, bottled water for hikes, loose fitting clothes for hiking, and any other items you may need.

Fires are permitted only in designated areas and under specific conditions. A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.

The Moores Creek Visitor Center/Bookstore is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm. Park grounds are open seven days per week from 9 am until 5 pm.

The Llyod W. Smith Gallery will be closed temporarily due to construction. All other exhibits will remain open.

Beginning May 23, 2026, Washington Headquarters Museum and the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center have new hours, as follows: Open Thursday - Monday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

The entire Ohanapecosh Campground area is CLOSED for the duration of the construction project, including all campsites, visitor center, restrooms, picnic area, & Ohanapecosh river access.

There is NO public access to Carbon River & Mowich Lake from SR 165. The bridge is closed to pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles and there is no alternate route.

There are five entrances to the park. GPS may take you to the wrong entrance or attempt to follow the most direct route, which could lead to closed gates. It can take hours to reroute to the correct entrance. Check directions & maps, not just your GPS.

Lengthy delays are likely at the southwest park entrance on SR706 on weekends. Check Google Maps for backup (represented by the orange/red line) at link below. Please do not block driveways or roads while in line outside the park.

The Sculptor’s Studio may close temporarily during periods of high heat to protect visitors and staff. Please check with park staff upon arrival for the most up‑to‑date information on whether the Studio is open or closed.

Many trails in Muir Woods connect to trails in Mount Tamalpais State Park. For up-to-date information about trail conditions within State Park boundaries, check the Mount Tamalpais State Park Info page (click more) and scroll down to Trail Updates.

Reservations are required for all personal vehicles and shuttle riders visiting Muir Woods. You can make your reservation by visiting www.gomuirwoods.com. Visit our "Know Before You Go" webpage to learn more important details before your visit.

There is NO cell service at Muir Woods. We discourage scheduling a rideshare service to leave the park. When hiring a taxi, visitors have the option of negotiating a flat rate or using the meter. Under some circumstances a flat rate may be cheaper.

Reservations for guided tours of the mansion must be made on Recreation.gov. The tour is $11.00 and are at 10, 11, 2, 3, and 4; masks are optional. The estate is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The grounds and outbuildings are free.

The Natchez Visitor Center is closed for the renovation of the public lobby area. For those seeking visitor information, we direct you to VisitNatchez at the Depot on Boundary Street. Or their website, VisitNatchez.org. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The first floor exhibit hall of the William Johnson House is now open to the public daily from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Due to construction, the second floor family living quarters remain closed at this time.

As Covid-related numbers have dipped below the CDC determined High Rate of Transmission in Adams County, Mississippi, face masks are no longer required in all NPS buildings at Natchez National Historical Park. Wearing of face masks is optional.

The Yockanookany section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is closed to equestrian use effective immediately, due to safety concerns with trail bridges and boardwalks. The trail will remain open to pedestrians.

The Rocky Springs section is closed from the Rocky Springs campground at milepost 55 to the northern terminus at milepost 59 until further notice. Visitors should observe posted closures. The trail is unsafe due to trail erosion and deteriorated bridges.

The Mount Alava trail and Fatifati trail from the Fagasa pass to the summit is closed for trail improvement work until further notice. Visitors can hike to the Alava trail from the Old Vatia trail, it is a much steeper and more rugged climb. Other suggested hiking alternatives include Upper and Lower Sauma trails and the Tuafanua trail.

The phone at the park (435-692-1234) is not functioning reliably. People are advised to call 435-241-3951 during business hours in order to speak with a ranger.

The Amphitheater Trail is closed for ongoing construction. Visitors will not be able to use the trail between the campground and the visitor center.

The park now accepts only mobile or electronic payments for entrance & camping fees. You can reserve campsites and buy entrance passes on Recreation.gov, or only use debit/credit cards to pay in person.
