Traffic in the Baltimore area has increased considerably in recent months due to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge which connected the Baltimore beltway. Please check the latest traffic conditions to plan your travel accordingly.

The NPS is rehabilitating the stairway connecting the Goodloe Byron Memorial Footbridge to the C&O Canal NHP towpath. The stairway will be CLOSED beginning July 27 for approximately one month while crews install the new stairwell. A shuttle will run between C&O Canal Lock 34 and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Visitor Center. This will impact access to Maryland Heights, the Appalachian NST, and the Potomac Heritage NST.

The accessible wheelchair lift for the Parsonage building is undergoing maintenance as of 7/10/26. Visitors who are unable to use stairs may not be able to enter the parsonage until this issue is resolved.

All tickets to the Truman Home and the Truman Farm Home are first-come, first-served. At this time, we are unable to take any reservations for groups. No tickets are issued at the Truman Home itself...all tickets issued at the visitor center.

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is closed Monday morning August 24 while staff assess roads and trails following storms. Staff are working towards reopening parts of the park today, exact time to be determined. The public will be kept informed. The Kahuku Unit is closed until further notice.

Beginning Tuesday, April 9, 2024, construction will close the Colonial Parkway to all travel in either direction between Yorktown and VA Route 199. Follow all detour signs. See additional closure information in the link below.

The planting beds, lawns, and paths of the Rose Garden will be under construction from late March 2026 lasting through fall of 2026. This rehabilitation will restore the crisp, level character of the garden, improve access and infrastructure, and re-install historic rose and peony varieties. During this period, the Burial Site viewing area should remain available, but occasional disruptions may restrict public access. The graves, marble monument, pet graves, and sundial will not be impacted by this project.

The East Trail System parking area is closed due to storm damage. (Updated 6/24/26)

Due to high fire danger, Hot Springs National Park has enacted a BURN BAN, August 15, 2026. Only gas and charcoal grills are currently allowed for use in the campground and picnic areas.

The park now accepts only mobile or electronic payments for entrance & camping fees. You can reserve campsites and buy entrance passes on Recreation.gov, or only use debit/credit cards to pay in person.

The voicemail for the main park phone line (970-562-4282) is not functioning reliably. People are advised to call during business hours in order to speak with a ranger.

A reroute is in effect between the Emmons Creek Fishery Area and Hartman Creek State Park due to forestry operations. Follow posted signage to remain on the designated reroute. For maps and additional details from the Ice Age Trail Alliance, follow the link below:

The Stewart Tunnel is closed indefinitely pending reconstruction. The Ice Age Trail is closed at both intersections of Tunnel Rd. A 0.1‑mile section of the Ice Age Trail between S Neenah Ave and W Yew St is closed indefinitely. Bypass this closure via S Neenah Ave and W Yew St. This 0.5‑mile alternate route replaces 0.5 miles of Ice Age Trail. The first 0.4 miles east of Thornapple Creek Rd are closed September 1–December 31 for private hunting. Bypass the closure by heading west, then south on Thornapple Creek Rd, and turning east on Gold Dust Rd. For maps and additional details from the Ice Age Trail Alliance, follow the link below:

A reroute is in effect between Indian Valley Rd and Grenlie Rd from September 1, 2026 to January 5, 2027 due to private hunting. Bypass the closure by heading southwest, then south on N Foley Rd, and turning east on Grenlie Rd. The section between Grenlie Rd and Rieben Rd is also closed during the 9‑day gun deer season. A reroute is in effect on the connecting route south of Algoma. The bridge over Three Mile Creek on Longfellow Rd is closed to all travel. Bypass this closure via 9th Rd and STH‑42; note that the 10th Rd bridge is also closed. This 2.7‑mile alternate route replaces 2.8 miles of connecting route. Restrooms are available at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th & Market Streets, the corner of 5th and Chestnut Streets, and the Benjamin Franklin Museum (museum entrance requires a fee) in Franklin Court.

Marquette Greenway construction will require closing sections of the Glenwood Dunes Trail (April–December 2026) and Little Calumet River / Mnoké Prairie Trail (May–December 2026). Closure dates may shift as work progresses. Please follow all posted closures and check the park website or NPS App for updates.

Temporary closure of the Dunewood Trace trail (2.2 miles), between Kemil Rd, and the Dunewood Campground (near the recycle bins), is now in effect until further notice due to construction of the new Marquette Greenway trail.

Hobart Woodland is closed until further notice while park crews work to clear several downed trees that are creating hazardous conditions for visitors.

The Paul H Douglas Center is closed until Wednesday 8/19, and all public programs are cancelled until further notice. Several parts of the park are inaccessible due to the weather event from August 11th. It is not advisable to go in the lake after a heavy rain. Use extreme caution when visiting as most locations have no power and are out of service.

Proper food storage is required on Isle Royale. All food, trash, scented items, cooking supplies, cooking utensils, and fish/fish parts must be stored properly. To learn more about food storage and to learn how to properly store your food, trash, and scented items, click "more."

All backpacks must be stored in backpack storage areas at Three Mile and Rock Harbor campgrounds. All food and scented items are to be in the Food Storage Lockers. Containers should be kept in the Food Storage Locker when space allows or near the Food Storage Locker, do not store in tents.

Visitors are required to wear completely enclosed shoes if participating in a cave tour, like tennis shoes, sneakers or hiking boots. Any type of sandals or shoes with any openings are NOT acceptable.

Advance cave tour reservations up until August 31st are available. September reservations will become available on August 1st. Reservations are strongly recommended. Reservations full? Choose a day to come to the park early in the day to purchase a same day cave tour ticket.

December 1, 2025, through March 7, 2026, (change to Daylight Savings Time) all sites are open from 10am to 4pm EST.

There is currently no water available at the Clarno Unit of the park. Please plan accordingly and bring water when visiting.

The Martinez Adobe, located on the western edge of John Muir’s historic orchard, is currently closed due to structural damage. It is unknown when the public will be able to enter the structure. The Muir/Strentzel mansion remains open to visitors.

It is prohibited to come within 1/4 mile of the Kalaupapa shoreline. Access by boat within the quarter mile offshore park boundary requires a special use permit.

Access to the park, including Kalawao County, the Kalaupapa Trail, the settlement, and Waikolu Valley, is restricted to residents and visitors with approved permits issued by Hawaii State Department of Health. Violations will result in arrest/fine.

Launching, landing, or operating an unmanned aircraft from or on lands and waters administered by the National Park Service within the boundaries of Kalaupapa National Historical Park is prohibited. This includes model airplanes, quadcopters, and drones.

Starting January 5th, 2026, the road to the top of Kennesaw Mountain will be closed to private vehicles and cyclists due to construction and painting. Shuttle service to the top of the mountain is ONLY available on weekends and select federal holidays. The park's Visitor Center is still accessible. This work is in preparation for the upcoming Safety Improvement Project. For updates, continue to check park's website.

At this time all sales of America the Beautiful Passes are temporary unavailable. Please check https://store.usgs.gov/recreational-passes for locations. We will advise when passes are available for sale. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Government Wash campground will close on May 15th to vehicle access and overnight camping to assess and manage area improvements and protect visitors and staff from extreme heat risks. The campground is anticipated to reopen for overnight stays on October 1st. It will remain open this summer to non-motorized vehicle access for daytime, non-camping related activities.

Goldstrike Canyon, Arizona Hot Springs, Liberty Bell Arch, White Rock Canyon, and Lone Palm trails will be closed for visitor and first responder safety. Please check the park website, social media, and weather for updates before visiting. Arizona, Goldstrike, and Lone Palm hot springs remain open and accessible by water.

Road construction work to occur Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:00 pm, weather permitting. Expect delays of up to 30 minutes during active construction periods.

The South Turkey Creek Trail, located near the Harbor Bay Campground Area, is currently open for hiking for the first mile; however, the remainder of the trail is underwater and cannot be safely accessed.

Each applicant is required to complete a new "Application For Special Use Permit" prior to any new permit being issued

The National Park Service announces that Federal Highway Administration contractors will begin roadway and pavement maintenance at Sanford Yake Campground starting Monday, July 13, 2026. This project will include chip seal, micro seal, micro surfacing, and pavement striping throughout key areas of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Visitors to Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument and Lake Meredith National Recreation Area are encouraged to follow all posted message boards and traffic instructions.

The Fort Spokane Museum and Visitor Center in Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is temporarily closed for the duration of the summer for critical historic preservation repairs. Dating to 1880, the landmark building originally served as the fort's guardhouse and now operates as the primary hub to introduce visitors to the park and its many resources.

Due to extreme fire conditions, all fires at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area are prohibited effective 12:01 a.m., June 20, until further notice. No open flames are permitted. Only self-contained propane or gas cookstoves and lanterns are allowed during the full fire ban.

The Hawk Creek Campground and boat launch area will close to all public access starting April 16 through Oct. 6. The closure is necessary to keep visitors, staff, and construction crews safe during the Hawk Creek Road Improvements and Stabilization Project. It may be extended through Oct. 30, if needed. The project, managed by the Federal Highway Administration in partnership with Lincoln County and the National Park Service, will begin at the intersection of Hawk Creek Road and Miles Creston Road.

Fort Spokane Campground has re-opened to the public with minimal closures as of 8/14/2026. Sites 39, 40, 41, 50, and walk-in sites 64-68 will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to fire damage and hazard trees. Caution tape and closure signs have been posted for visitor safety. Please remain in open areas of the campground only. The Fort Spokane day use area and boat launch remain open. Please continue to use caution throughout these areas.

The Juniper Lake Campground and day use area is currently closed for maintenance and campground improvement projects. Potable water is not available in the campground. The Juniper Lake Road (access to lake and trailheads) is open. Please drive with caution as road crews and contractors may be actively working along the roadway.

The Electric Vehicle charging station is non-functional. There is no timeline for when it may become available. Please plan accordingly.
